Hmmm, you might have a point; I have also noticed that about the other forums. I’m sure if we did a history forum it too would go down the drain

i luv this idea.. i mean honestly i cant say i like history much. never did really. then again.. i dont like anything thats related to school unless its biology, or psychology or CSI lol. But there is some history that i do like. I mean, i like war's. Any war at any given time i luv to learn about. How people fought at different era's. Its quite fascinating how much technology has changed over the last 5k years lol. But yes i think this History forum is awsome. I hate sitting in class learning this shit but i rather learn it from Kalibur or Fetus lol. You have my vote. |

Good idea. I'm a bit of a World War II history enthusiast, I've read more than a handful of Stephen Ambrose's books; all great compilations regarding the Western Front of the European Theater. I'm also pretty into Ancient Rome. The Romans in many ways parallel our society. Also someone mentioned 300. That movie is going to rule. I've wanted Hollywood to make a movie about Thermopylae for years now. Probably better off that they waited, as combat scenes have gotten much more intense over the past handful of years or so. |

This is a forum for like telling someone hey “if you do this and this its better then this†or telling someone a better way to do stuff... history needs its own forum I mean we have a forum for philosophy what’s so bad about history? This history forum would be were we could talk about what happened and debate on how stuff happened, like the pyramids, and a lot of other stuff. |

I was going trying to stay as far away from this thread as humanly possible. After all, why put a lot of thought into a post that most people aren’t even going to read any way? But, after Kali’s comment about the pyramids (and considering that I am drunk and bored), I figured I would make a post. For some time now I have been a fan of ancient Egyptian history. I’m not a history buff, but for some reason ancient Egyptian history fascinates me. The pyramids of Giza are among history’s greatest mysteries. Even with all of our technology and study of the pyramids, historians still cannot agree on when they were built or even how they were built. The pyramids of Giza are riddles wrapped in mysteries inside enigmas. Historians have argued for, and against, the “slave labor†theory. That is, these great feats were accomplished by shear numbers and force. Likewise, no one seems to know for sure how they got the stone blocks from the quarry to the building site. They did not have the wheel, so some believe the stones were moved using wooden sleds or pushed along wooden logs. But again, no one knows for sure and there is no evidence for either. Then there is the matter of placing the blocks on the pyramid. Most historians agree that the Egyptians did not have pulley systems at all, let alone pulleys which were sophisticated enough to manage that kind of weight (most blocks are from 2 tons to 20 tons – 4,000 lbs to 40,000 lbs.). Some historians point to the idea that the Egyptians used a long ramp to place the stones. The only problem with this idea is that the largest pyramid is ~481 feet. So, if there was a long, straight ramp, it would have to be ridiculously long and wide to provide a reasonable grade on which the workers could walk and pull tens of thousands of pounds behind them. Another theory of placing the stones was a ramp that wrapped around the pyramid. But, like the former theory, no one can agree on this because there is no evidence to support such a claim. Now, there are alternative theories regarding how the pyramids at Giza were built. One such theory, that you will not read about in your high school text book, is the idea that the pyramids were built by aliens. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying this is true (or even that I believe in it), but, given the complete lack of any evidence for any theory, the alien theory is no more or less credible than the slave labor and ramp theories. Again, not that I believe in this, but here is some of the evidence the alien theorists point to… The Great Pyramid of Giza is lined up exactly with the magnetic North Pole. There is only a difference of 16 minutes (there are 60 minutes in one degree). That’s pretty impressive considering the fact that compasses were not invented until a few thousand years after the pyramid was built. Even though many believe the three pyramids of Giza were built around 3,000 years ago, there are some interesting points surrounding the idea that they are much older. The three pyramids are very similar in size and distance to Orion’s Belt. Orion’s Belt consists of three stars of ascending sizes just like the pyramids. 10,500 years ago, when it is believed that there weren’t any civilized human social systems, Orion’s Belt would have been in the sky directly over the three pyramids matching the sizes. That is, 10,500 years ago, the largest star in Orion’s Belt would have been directly over the largest pyramid (likewise for the medium and small pyramids and their corresponding stars). Furthermore, the pyramids are, to scale, the exact distance from one another as are the stars of Orion’s Belt. Another interesting point is that if you take the perimeter of the pyramids and divide them by two times by there respective heights, you get a number that is exactly equivalent to the number Pi (3.14…) up to the 15th digit. Did this happen purely by chance? Pi was not calculated to the 15th digit until thousands of years later, yet some how the pyramids managed this brilliance by chance? Mathematics is the universal language. Just like the complex mathematical equations found in modern crop circles, Pi was found in the pyramids. Moving on, the absence of records is abnormal. The Egyptians were meticulous about keeping records. They kept records on how they counted grain, wars they fought, taxes, and the building of simple structures (houses), and yet the greatest structure of all time, commissioned by a pharaoh, the construction of which lasted over 20 years, was never written down? It is possible the records were destroyed, but one would figure that the largest project in human history, at the time, commissioned by a living god would be written down in more than one place. But, alas, no journals, hieroglyphs, oral history or official records. Just to give you an idea of how large the Great Pyramid is, if you were to take all the stones they used and cut them into one foot square blocks, it would extend 2/3 of the way around the Earth. The longitude and latitude of the Great Pyramid is 31 degrees North by 31 degrees West. Those are the two lines that cover the most combined land area in the world. It could be argued that the Great Pyramid is at the center of all the land mass on Earth. The height of the pyramid (~481 feet) is about 1/1,000,000,000 the distance from the Earth to the Sun (92,000,000 miles). Interesting. Many civilizations were creating pyramids around the same time, yet there is no evidence that these civilizations had any contact. What is it about the pyramid and early human societies? What is the connection? There is a lot of talk about “sky gods†in Egyptian writings and many hieroglyphs mention floating objects and fires in the sky. Sure, this could be attributed to religion, but it is just as fathomable that they could have been talking about UFOs. There is even text in Egyptian hieroglyphs which suggest that the pyramids were already there when they settled the land. At any rate, for the three of you who actually read this far, if you are interested in learning more about alternative explanations on how the pyramids were built, there is plenty of information in books and on the internet. Also, please do not “quote†me and attempt to debunk what I have said here. As mentioned earlier, I do not blindly believe the alien story. All I am saying is that there are as many holes and absence of evidence in the widely accepted stories (slave labor, ramps) as there are in the alien theories.
