| Laptop needs reformatting | ||

Ok, i went to get on my laptop yesterday when i got home from school, and while booting, it displayed this message (or something similar): System file corrupted at System32/something/something/system So i tryed repairing, but that didnt work. So now i am ready to reformat. There is nothing important on the hd (just my moms shit), so i just need to know what to do and how to do it. I have about 2 hours here at my grandparents to do my hw before i go home, and i would like to reformat when i get home. So any help would be especially appreciated! I already have a copy of xp home edition. it came with the laptop |

There are two ways to do this: 1. Most pre-built rigs come with four or five discs that are used to reformat. They restore the laptop to factory settings, that is, how it was when you bought it. If you have these, just insert the first one, and boot from the disc(press esc at boot to select CD-ROM drive). 2. The second way is, IMO, better, because you don't need to delete all that crap that came with the computer. Downsides are if it came with anything you like, such as MS Word, you probably won't get it back(nothing a little pirating can't fix). To do this, put in your Windows XP Install Disc, and boot from it(once again, press esc at boot). There will be an option to boot into the recovery console(I think it's one of the F keys, but it says it there if I'm wrong). When in the console, type "format c" without the quotes. It will ask if you're sure. If you're sure, type "y". If you're not sure, type "no". This will completely clear your hard drive. Then, just re-install Windows. <3 |

ok i did that this morning and i did format c: and it didnt do anything and it said to do format c: /fs:file-system and i wasnt sure what file system to use. do i do fat32 or ntfs? | ||

Hit F10!!! Rofl, JK. Amped had an interesting suggestion. Personally, I'd go the F8 safe mode route and try Windows Restore back to a day when it was working as a first choice, but if that doesn't work, delete teh gay porn and try again.
