Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

There have been two posts recently regarding the commenting on posts of videos and on other ideas with on word responses such as "old", "first", "lol", "owned", and other such one word responses (as mentioned by NoSkill). Although I agree that they are not necessary, I wanted to take a moment and try to examine why they are so prevelant in threads. I believed this to be more of an open-ended philosophical question rather than an accusational thread at anyone or a call for people to stop doing this; it makes no difference to me what others post, thats the right of freedom of speech (or press, I don't know which). I just enjoy observing unexplained phenomena and systematically analyzing them through the application of simple logic and causality. Here are some possibilities I have come up with for the reasons people post such brief responses that have apparently little or no influence on the respective thread itself. 1) The poster wishes to increase their post count. 2) The poster wants other members to know that they do watch the forums and are an active commmunity member lest someone begin a termination thread for them. 3) The poster actually wishes to voice their opinion about the thread, just has nothing better to say than the brief emotion the felt after first reading, which they verbalize in their post. 4) The poster wishes to flaunt their knowledge of the internet - eg. pointing out a video they've already seen - thereby increasing their personal reputation on the internet, the only thing a gamer really has other than skills. 5) The poster wants to ajitate the original author of the thread with simple irrational defiance simply to witness the reaction and be entertained by the original author's frustration. 6) The poster wants to create problems between the community members also creating entertainment from the flaming and/or rudness which stems from an original author feeling threatened for sharing their ideas, the reason for the original post in the first place. This is all I could come up with while I was sidetracked from my history paper. If you can think of any other reasons, post them here. I'd like to see what everyone else comes up with. And please, don't point fingers or mention names; that's not what this thread is about. I was speaking in generalities and simply wish to come to a collective understanding of the problem thereby to possibly offer a solution to possibly be the basis of new legislation to prevent these "flame wars" from occurring. Such as a rule stating that a post must be 3 words or more, etc. |

Well, you probably shouldn't be talking about freedom of speech. This is not America. This is internets. |

fetus...lol I think its because we see things in movies and stuff, and hear certain types of languages in certain games, that we just start to pick up on it. It becomes an everyday things. Picture it like this: If you moved to another country that didnt speak english, wouldnt you eventually pick up on the language? Its also like speaking your first words when your like 2 years old. Nobody taught you how to speak, you just eventually picked up on it. (Very true...Look up Freud.) So i feel that because we spend so much time on the internets, we are starting to grow into the habit of talking and posting a certain way. Or it could just be the moment of opportunity to say FIRST, OLD, or anything of the like. ![]() EDIT: I agree with your fourth point wave. Thats why i do it sometimes. lol Edited Thu Dec 06 2007, 05:22AM |
