Oh I'm so down. I still play zombie escape sometimes on CS:S. Never gets old. So down for Office.
Also 15 years for me. Fuck man we are getting old as shit.
Also, loving Back 4 Blood. Highly recommend to everyone who enjoys coop zombie action. I play on steam. gLiTch handle was retired with FT. You can find me as theRemedy on Steam friends.

Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

A philosphical discussion on ganking |

I'm speculating that ganking happens when a player who does not want to be challenged to play a game (i.e., encounters where the outcome is contingent), instead opts to do something where the outcome is a foregone conclusion: kill a player that is vastly lower in capabilities. If meaning is found at the meeting point of inherited systems of interpretation (cultural expectations) and the performative demands of singular circumstances (something I talked about here), then ganking is a denial of that meaning. It is a retreat from the demands of the new, and it signals a disposition that does not want to be performatively challenged. Ganking lower level players is, then, a somewhat pathetic attempt to feel, well, something. I'm guess this applies only to MMORPGs because seriously, ganking isn't always so bad. In counterstrike, ganking is called 'learning'. |

Err, in DOTA ganking is when you need to team up on a person and take them by surprise. That's called strategy or tactics as it's an ambush. But joining a noob only server to get kills.. Well, that's just called "Ego Booster": You usually find this after someone just gets stomped in a scrim or cal/cpl/cevo match and they need to feel better. They lost 16-4 so now they need to make up for it by doing the same to others.

in WoW, i get ganked all the time. But, i fight back even though im helpless. Sometimes u get "potentially" ganked by a noob. I did. On my lvl 31 priest, a 39 mage tried to kill me. I ended up stomping him. instead of just sitting there taking it. He sucked and i camped him for hours because of it. I gank because it makes me feel powerful! |

In DotA i like to "gank" because it gives me more gold and doesn't really have a negative effect on me. i get stronger, level up, and get more gold to buy shit...but also in dota, everyone has the same amount of time to level up. thats my only experience with it

I consider ganking when I took my lvl 70 mage in WoW and blasted a buncha "newbs" who stood no chance ![]() Or when somebody is farming (lvl 70 also) and I come along side and blast them in the face for 5k /flex and yes, I felt super afterwards (I let some live if there toon was cool, killed all the fuglys!!) Just to shorten my answer i won't go into a lot of detail or examples or anything. I'll abbreviate, for lack of a better word right now, much of my argument for time's sake. I really don't see any difference between online ganking and RL bullying. They are the same thing in different mediums and are derived from the same things. Both are pathetic attempts by people to avoid fear. They are spawned by human nature. More specifically the fear of the unknown that is held by all people. This fear is why we are afraid of death. It is an irrational fear, but we fear it anyway. I'll quote confucious for the best wording of my belief on this fear. "To fear death, my friends, is only to think ourselves wise, without being wise: for it is to think that we know what we do not know. For anything that men can tell, death may be the greatest good that can happen to them: but they fear it as if they know quite well that it was the greatest of evils. And what is this but that shameful ignorance of thinking that we know what we do not know?" So what does this have to do with ganking? or bullying? Well since we are afraid of death and the unknown, we try to avoid it. This is true of almost all fears. Take spiders, if you are afraid of spiders you don't surround yourself with them do you? So we try to avoid the unknown at all costs. One way to battle the unknown is to be in control. This is one very popular tactic used by all people. Some do it in the form of being the real bossy type and be the typical "control freak". Others do it in the form of knowledge. They think that if they know so much about the world that they can't get blindsided. They study hard to learn science and to learn statistics and probabilities. Others combat the unknown with religion. They place everything in faith because they want so much to think that there is someone watching out for them and that there isn't a great unknown. If they can truly believe in god and all the answers that religion gives them then they have some control. They can control their fate by doing what the bible (or any religious text) tells them to. Another popular way is through bullying (aka ganking in the world of video games). Bully's and gankers always target the weak, never the strong. In RL this means those that lack the physical or mental abilities to defend themselves and in the online world those with lower levels and weaker stats and abilities. This is the case because there is a predictable outcome. This predictable outcome gives the bully or ganker a sense of control. This control helps fight that fear of the unknown. That's why in RL if you act crazy you are less likely to get bullied, because the outcome for many potential bullies becomes unpredictable and they can't get that sense of control. In reality ganking is just online bullying. It's only there so that people can feel that they have power (a popular form of gaining the feeling of being in control) and control so that they don't have to deal with that fear of the unknown. just my 2 cents. I know it seems somewhat vague but i didn't want to write a book so i had to cut a lot out of my argument. Edited Tue Oct 02 2007, 02:52PM |

At least on WoW, people that complain about ganking are just pussies imo. If you roll on a PvP server, your consenting. If your flagged on a non PvP server, even more so. That's my basic opinion on it really, so I gank whenver i can, and I don't get angry if im ganked. |
