I'm happy when I do the right thing. When I go against my values, I am unhappy. It is unrealistic for me to choose one or the other. (To answer your question  )

I feel happiness. Because, finding TRUE happiness, and having all components of your life attributing to your "happiness", its a real journey and something you strive for. Being right, only takes some intellectual thought and some studying of whatever particular subject. If you wish to be a "right" Police officer, you go to school, you go through academy, you do all these things to be that. Happiness sometimes takes longer, and like I said, its a Journey, and for me, life needs to be a journey. In all important figures of my life, they all describe their life as a Journey, and has it was Wondrous!!! Happiness. flat out. Being right can be simple, and hard at the same time, but with Happiness... its more complex and in the long run, rewarding. |

Would you rather be right knowing that if you cut the red wire you will save hundreds of people, or happy walking away and ignoring it, but finding out you caused the deaths of hundreds? All depends on the situation. Sometimes its better to be right, even if you dont want to be, and even if it doesnt make you happy. Blissful happy ignorance is nice too. Depends on the situation | ||

the quote itself is hard to discuss because it's meaning changes based on context. Now if the quote is given a context then i could give an answer. To further explain what i mean by how it changes based on context i'll use 3 examples. 1) If this question is posed in the realm of relationships. Is it better to let the little things go and be happy or do you have to be right and carry on little arguments until you win? This is one context pointed out early in the thread by someone i don't remember who and i'm too lazy to go back and check. 2) There is always the ability to put this quote into a philosophical standpoint. The answer when put into this context will give you a good idea of who is religious and who is largly skeptic. In the philosophical context this quote asks whether or not you would rather be ignorantly happy or would you prefer to be right and know the truth. In many views the ignorantly happy side would be radical religious people who refuse to question their beliefs. 3) This question can also be posed from a moral standpoint. Would you rather be happy regardless of others or would you prefer to be right and help others even if it is a burden at times. This could go to the magnitude of outright bullying or even Nazi like magnitude or as simple as cutting someone off in traffic so that you can be happy that you got home that much sooner. On the reverse side it could be fasting like Ghandi to simpler things like adding stress to your schedule to volunteer to help children to even as simple as taking a few seconds out of your day to hold a door for someone. Either way a completely different yet viable answer based on the context of the quote. It could be stated even simpler from a moral standpoint with a question such as If you see someone drop 5 dollars do you keep it, it's just 5 dollars and your a little happier or do you run and give it to them? just my 2 cents |
