Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Seeing as it takes me 5 hours to encode a 30 minute long video, i figure it's time for a new processor. I've looked into some cheap intel dual cores ( -[link]- ), some high end dual cores ( -[link]- ), and some quad cores ( -[link]- ). I also looked at some AMD's but was totally confused as to whether they would work on my board (im not sure what my mobo would support, so if theres a way to find out let me know). I'll also probably need to buy a fan/heatsink since according to the reviews the intel stock ones are shit. But again, im unsure how to install it/if it would work on my board. What do you guys suggest? I'm leaning towards the wolfdale dual core, but the price is skyyy high. Also post some reliable fans/heatsinks you suggest (and if possible how to install it!) I have a thin budget (250 is pushing the limit), but would be willing to invest in something that i dont have to worry about overheating with overclocking (plus i have a dell mobo idk if i have the ability to OC) I do alot of video editing, and a ton of multitasking, so something fast and reliable is a MUST. Any help is greatly appreciated! EDIT: THIS IS MY MOTHERBOARD: -[link]- Edited Sun Jun 15 2008, 04:48PM |

-[link]- That's the one I have, it's fairly cheap, and is a great processor. |

Just woke up so I'm ehh. This is a wonderful budget processor -[link]- it is a 45nm so it runs very cool even on a stock heatsink. Here is a nice mobo to go with the processor -[link]- and it comes under the $250. Edited Sun Jun 15 2008, 06:32PM

1. hahahahahahah dell selling that mobo for $500.... bwahahaha i can get one 20 times better for $350.... Now you know why i NEVER buy from a company every again, and why i build my own. 2. Considering what that mobo comes with, im gonna go with that guess of it being LGA775 slot. If thats the case then those processors would work. 3. Dont go with AMD, cuz it wont support it. You would need a new mobo to switch. 4. Bob, while that processor is AWSOME, it IS 45nm... I will bet my bottom dollar that his mobo wont support 45nm chips. I would rather play it safe and go with a 65nm chip. My personal opinion would be to go with a quad. The one im going to link is very affordable and is VERY reliable. Its the on im buying for my new system. It has 2,000 reviews at 91% 5/5. Its fast, its reliable, and it overclocks very well, (although i would not recommend doing so on that Mobo). -[link]- P.S. Just to show how much bullshit dell is, i will show you why that $500 mobo is garbage, and what i can get you for $330. -[link]- That is an EVGA 790i Ultra SLI mobo. Supports 45nm chips, every intel processor (including core 2 extreme), 1600 FSB, supports 8gigs of DDR3 2000(oc), has 3 PCI-E x16 slots (two are 2.0), and even 8 channel onboard audio. And the best part about it is the fact thats its EVGA, and they have lifetime warranty with overclocking covered under the warranty as well. Point proven? I think so. If it didn't support it right out of the box it is just a simple bios flash =p and I am confident that it will

Quadcore over dual core for the same price, definitely. That page you linked to for the mobo doesn't say what socket it is, so I dunno if the cpu's you have in the OP will even fit. What processor do you have now? Edited Fri Jul 04 2008, 07:35AM |
