there is a way to set up a WEP key or a WPA key. WPA is safer, and harder to crack.. idk how to do it, i just kno u can |

On that page: 64/128-bit WEP WPA & WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access) so read the manual and set it up then. |

Safest would actually be MAC filtering. Should be in your router settings, and just only allow your computers to connect. | ||

Whatever you do don't use WEP, it has been cracked by 10 years olds. It actually takes about 60 seconds to grab enough packets to crack it.... Use WPA+ or don't use wireless at all.... Personally I use WPA2 Personal. | ||

What we're taught by the "Ethical Hacking" professor is that the most common security is just setting up both WPA and MAC address filtering, that and for the older CCSP books they tell you if you're doing a quick and dirty job just throw those two up as well. Neither is completely safe as WPA & WEP keys are easily broken into and MAC addresses can be spoof'd. But if you have both 80% of potential assholes trying to get into your system just give up and go for an easier target. Since you're at home, i presume, unless you're flaunting your system and telling people about how you do online billing that should be good enough | ||

You go to your ip in a web browser, such as 192.168.0.1 it's always 192.168.something.something, but it changes depending on the router. Once you're there you can select security settings, etc, etc. |
