well. i downloaded the sims2 about 3 days ago and started downloading the custom shit you can get off the net. I started playing CS:S again that night and my comp started to completely freeze about 10-20 minutes into playing. i uninstalled the sims2 yesterday and deleted all my temp files and the shit i wasn't using because i wanted to clean up my computer and then i got on last night and was on for a good 3-4 hours without any problems. then today it's back and doing the same thing. i've recently gotten a new ISP. i switched from DSL to a faster Comcast Cable Modem and that's been acting up because there's something wrong with the grid we're on and the internet goes out about 5 times a day, usually around 4-7 pm when the most people are on. i don't know if that could be a possible cause but i was just adding that. i had absolutely no problem with this until i installed the sims2 and the custom content shit. anyone got any clues on the cause? |

when you changed your isp, did you remember to change your connection information in valve (DSL => Cable)? If not, you could be causing choke on the server and slowing down the game this way. | ||

goto run, type eventvwr and check for software/hardware crashes before you start pointing stuff @ sims.. run a viri scanner(i use avgfree) and a reputiable antispyware proggie(microsoft antispyware, i dont' use these scanners cause i'm a clean surfer, never had the need either *shrug*) Anywyas if you don't see anything for source in Event Viewer, or a EA related program crash or conflic, or maybe it coulda been hardware.. look for errors near the time the problem happened.. maybe something started running on your comp and you didn't notice it cause it was a backround app, those sometimes crash other programs that are running, specially ones that eat up cpu and memory, then if there's nothing there. use steams file utility's they recently gave us.. if that don't work then look on valves forum -[link]- if u don't find the same problem there your busted Edited Thu Jul 20 2006, 12:41AM |

Follow everyone else's advice up to this point and try the following: Defintely go through the process of elimination as far as what's running on your system. Close as much shit down out your tray, which should be fairly obvious, and go through task manager and kill processes that may not be evident in your taskbar or tray. It takes time, and should help isolate what's causing your machine to freeze. You might find your system runs much more efficiently by closing unneeded apps as well. Sorry I'm not really providing any specific help... |
