I need all the info i can get. I am in the market and have little experience with laptops. I'm Looking to spend about 1.8k at most, is that a reasonable price? |

dont get a dell you can go for alienware for $2k .. but they are a bit pricy, but very reliable. you can build a full desktop for under $1k with an 8800gt vid card, 2gb ocz ddr2 ram @ 800mhz and a e6750 core 2 duo CPU if you build it yourself... or at least I can from a store near where i live... those parts alone only cost $576 Edited Sat Dec 01 2007, 05:45AM |

Omni proab wants a laptop b/c when he goes off to school he can play and doesn't have to have a desktop. I would say just build one urself. | ||

Get an XPS Dell, my brother has one of those. It probably runs better than my shitty desktop, he can play Portal/TF2, etc. all on the highest graphics and it runs just as fast as it does in low graphics. It never had any problems (that I know of) and I was just on the last level of Portal playing it on Thanksgiving on his laptop. He got the XPS M1710 -[link]- . Its starting price is $2,299, which is over your budget, but I think it'd be worth the extra cash. |

If you are going off to school, I suggest just taking your desktop to your dorm, and buy a laptop just for school. Saves money. | ||

A desktop would be better than a laptop because you can upgrade the box as necessary with a new video card, dual video cards to run SLI, new motherboard/processor, upgrade the RAM, and/or expand the hard drive capacity. It's also traditionally cheaper to build a box than a laptop. Laptop would definitely be more mobile. If I had to get a laptop, I would invest in an Alienware without a doubt. Best money you can spend on a gaming laptop. |
