Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

So it's come to this has it? Well let me start by saying my computer has been/ is/ and will continue to be fucked unless I do something drastic. Every time I correct a virus a new one pops up and opens doors for more virusses to come in. By now, my computer is a hive growing exponentially with new threats every day. If my computer was a woman, she would definately be a $20 crack whore working the ghettos of New York. So Here's what I want to do about it. I'm sick fixing things only to find that a new problem has occured, so I just want to wipe it all out. Problems, virusses, custom settings, everything gone. I want to wipe my hard drives clean and reinstall windows to restore my system to the way it was out of the box (clean, fast and disease free). I have backed up all the files I want to keep (music, maps I made, work for school) on an external hard drive and am ready to roll at a moments notice. So how would I do something like this? Does anyone know how, or have any tutorial sites they can refer me to so I can do this? I would like to leave HP tech support out of this if at all possible, because they are a royal dick up the ass and won't help me with anything. All they want is to argue with me about my warranty status, and could care less about my computer problems. |

Well if you are ready to format and reload your operating system you'll need to do the following. 1. Have the cd(s) for windows installation. 2. Check to see that your cd-rom is the first boot device. You can do this by going into your BIOS. (Reboot computer and look for setup menu key usually F2 or something of that sort.) 3. Put the install disc into your drive and reboot your computer. 4. Follow steps for formating and re-installing windows. 5. Make sure you have all the drivers you need for your hardware on the external hard drive. I think thats it as far as wiping your hard drive goes. Having an external drive makes this alot easier. Hope this helps. |

yeah, the setup is delete on my computer. just reinstall windows, then put all motherboard drivers on, then video drivers, then service packs. at least, thats the way i do it every time, works for me. I love XP's quickformat! otherwise it would take forever!

If its an HP rig it probably just has a recovery disk. You may not have too much of a problem except to uninstall all the crap they load on your rig and update all your drivers. Look at the documentation that came with your computer along with any disks (or disk) that came with it. Most recovery type software doesnt need you to into the bios to change boot sequence.Let us know how it goes. If you just have a windows disk post your specs and we can lnk you to the right drivers. Ive had my HP for 3 years now and still, no problems HP ftw! No tech support, nothing went wrong in it except during a thunderstorm my network card blew out. Other then that, Ive pretty much kept it virus free. When I had my Dell I had to reboot it 5+ times, so dont even bother getting one of those. Their tech support is even worse then anyone's, because one, you cant understand them, and two, chances are you know more then them. Dude your getting a piece of shit!
