Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

I can't believe i missed that intel SSD. The x-25 is the way to go. The controllers on those babies are flawless unlike the J-Micron controllers on the old ones. They were always faulty and had some twitches..(freeze for 3 seconds every now and then). I would always almost suggest an SLC instead of MLC, but the prices on those are still horrendous. Still got like 2 years before they come down. I usually go with Nvidia, but ATI has been in second place for a long time now... since the Radeon 9xxx series. And because they are always in second, they strive to be better. And they accomplished that. I go with driver support, customer service, and game performance. Right now, ATI has that advantage. They have the first DX11 cards (they have had DX11 support since DX10 came out, but Nvidia couldnt keep up... that another story all together), driver support is currently doing better then Nvidia, and card prices are "usually" lower and more gamer/user friendly. The prices are sky high because of the lack of competition... which will change in the coming months believe me. Right now ATI cards are beast. The lowest power consumption, heat, and largest performance upgrade. The 5970 is by far the best single card out there. Go with that intel SSD, grab a 5870 otherwise go with a GTX260 (or wait 2 months and save a shit ton of money). If you decide to use a lower end card, lets say a 4870 or whatever (lol 5870 > then 2x 4870's), then grab a 750watt PSU with at least 50-60 amps on the +12v rail and 2-4x 6+2 pin connectors. This will give you the best opportunity for future expansion. The reason i gave you the 1000 watt was because it will easily handle the 5870 AND everything else, and if you wanted to go crossfire and buy a second 5870 when the prices get cut in half then you can still handle them both. But i fucked up because the board i listed i dont think supports crossfire... only SLI.. Let me double check on that. Before you order, list what your gonna buy... so we can make final revisions or give you final advice. EDIT: The difference between the RAM me and angry listed was the CAS latency and the timings. They both run at 1600mhz and are ddr3... but timings and Latency are also a major factor. If you want a better understanding on that subject, read my post on this page -[link]- This MSI board doesnt say it doesnt have crossfire support, nor does it say anything about SLI. But it does have 2x PCIe slots. Its an excellent board.. i have been a fan of this board since i5 was in pre-production. -[link]- If you want something from a more recognized brand that STATES it has crossfire support.. then go with -[link]- Here is the only thing. Because the Core i5's have the PCIe controller "on-die," it has a max speed of PCIe 2.0 x16. If you want to use two cards, they will run at x8/x8 mode. You wont get the full potential of a crossfire solution with the 5 series. You would be better off getting a Core i7. Or maybe selling your 5870 when u want to upgrade and grab a 5970 instead. Its up too you. Either way, you will have a beast system. Edited Sat Feb 06 2010, 07:44PM |

I'll be spending about 200-350 this up coming week on my first parts. Probably going to be the PSU and the Case, any suggestions what I should get first and last? I might get the graphic cards last like you stated, I can wait two months for a dramatic price drop on the graphics. |

peacebypeice wrote ... won't really matter what order lol, gonna need all the parts to work anyways This. However, you can order everything but the Power supply and gfx card first. If possible, you can run this machine with your old gfx for the time being while u wait for the price drop. If your old gfx is PCIe and your old power supply has a 24pin main board connector, and at least 400 watts of power, then you can run your new machine with your old Power suppyl and gfx card. Wait out 2 months and grab the 5 series ATI card, or compare the low end new nvidia card to the 5870 and see which one is a better bang for your buck. |
