Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

"QUOTING PEACEBYPIECE" quoting thing wont work for some reason... teh peen rocket case -[link]- mobo -[link]- gfx card -[link]- psu -[link]- cpu -[link]- ram -[link]- hdd -[link] Peace wrote ... - can easily get 1 tb for $100 if you would want to add/change out the velociraptor(pwnzorz) for a slower but bigger hdd also if you really wanted more ram you can get that for a little more as well also if you need a monitor and all that jazz, they're moderately priced so won't add a terrible lot oh ya total price for this is $1388.93 Hmm.... not bad... but i wouldnt buy it. Since your building this for gaming.. Core i5 will be sufficient. It will save you $100 on mobo and $100 on processor which we will put towards the gfx card... which really matters most. You technically ONLY need 4gb's of RAM if your building this for gaming. I have friends who have 8-16 gigs and the one with 8 doesnt ever use more then 4 when gaming... unless he is running two high end games at the same time which is pointless. Graphics cards these days have 1gb of video RAM... which is enough for running games at 1920x1200 resolution. And with 4gb of system RAM, windows 7 ultimate with all the bells and whistles and gadgets/widgets uses 1gb. That leaves you with 3gb's left... and there is no game i know that uses more then 2.5gb's... most use 1.5 to 2... So you still have some left over for whatever you want. And if later on you want more, just order a second pair. But for now... you have some options. The first i5 build i put together came out to around $1800... now i was aiming for 1500 but because ATI is eye gouging people with prices on their cards cuz Nvidia is no where to be seen, it was hard keeping it under 1500. I could subtract the video card and give you a GTX260 Core 216... and throw in a smaller power supply. That will put you under 1500. I have that card and i run most games on high settings. Crysis no... and the next generation of games no... but oh well. And i wont give you a GTX285, cuz its still $300 and for $100 more you can get a 5870 which is like 2x 285's or close to it. This build would be $1500 without the SSD OS drive, 5870, and smaller power supply. That means 1TB storage acting as a boot drive, a GTX260 Core 216, and a 750 watt power supply. Your choice. For now, this is the beast that will rape any current game and future games in the asshole without lube. Case - -[link]- - This case has grown on me.. Cases are usually preference, as long as it has the air flow which this one does. Im a fan of Mid Towers, but im not sure how a 5870 would fit in one. I know the GTX's fit.. but this one is a bit longer. Mobo - -[link]- - EVGA is the best. Video Card - -[link]- - XFX is the only company i trust with ATI. Expensive yes, but in 2 months when Nvidia finally releases their next gen cards "Fermi," ATI cards will be cut in half. Power Supply - -[link]- - All you need to power the hungry bear. Processor - -[link]- - Amazing lil guy. SSD Boot Drive - -[link]- - Enough space for any OS, and read and write speeds are pretty good. RAM - -[link]- - Im not really a fan of G.Skill, but they are the cheapest, with great reviews, and a low CAS latency with tight timings. 4gb's is good enough like i said. You can always buy more later on if you "must" have more. Storage Drive - -[link]- - Cheapest with most good reviews. Keyboard - -[link]- - My personal favorite. Lightweight and simple... and looks nice. Monitor - -[link]- - Can't get any better. DvD Drive - -[link]- - You obviously need one unless you have one. Let me know on your choice so i can alter some things to get you below $1500 if you want to go that low. Remember, cut the price, cut the performance. Oh dont forget... most are free shipping or cheap shipping and NO TAX. TigerDirect will rape you on taxes. Edited Thu Feb 04 2010, 11:24PM |

idk, is this strictly a gaming build? i still say my build gives the most options for teh future that mobo pwns the cpu i could see going with i5 but shit if he's got that kind of money, might as well go with i7 g.skill..not a fan had g.skill and they have terrible customer service once if your newegg warranty is out solid state i'm not so sold on either i'd still go with the velociraptor then get another tb for your torrenting and shit would he really need 1000watt psu? keyboard <3 logitech brother had a saitek and it was a pos the cases are for sure preference, with teh possibility that the vid cards gonna be a monster, i put up a full tower and trust me, this thing has plenty of space and cooling plus it looks BA the monitor's very nice i'm still in love with lg though just my opinions |

How are you not sold on SSDs? You've probably been using one for 5+ years, easily.

Case -[link]- Mobo -[link]- CPU -[link]- CPU Fan -[link]- PSU -[link]- RAM -[link]- GPU -[link]- HDD -[link]- Optical Drive -[link]- There you go EDIT: Glitch, I swear to god I did not look at your post before I put my shit together (this was an actual build I put together for my dad). I'm glad to see you like the HAF case; that one has had me drooling for when I build my i9 machine this spring. I like the 1156 socket because the motherboards are generally cheaper (hence mine with USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0 for $159.99), and the chipset is more geared towards graphics (the p55 northbridge is pretty much built into the processor). One other thing. If you're planning on going SSD (which is well worth it), go intel. They're the best out there right now -[link]- ======================================================== T otal $918 or $1048 with SSD Edited Fri Feb 05 2010, 04:25AM |

Any reason you guys are going with ATI instead of nVida? I'm nub so no idea what's the difference between the two. What's the difference between the RAM 4ngry and Glitch suggested? Edited Fri Feb 05 2010, 04:35AM |

ATI is the win right now. Although I totally hate ATI's drivers and support, Nvidia has dropped the ball (must be some amazing shit coming out soon if they haven't had any real advances in the past few years). They simply can't compete with ATI right now (just look at the specs. ATI has gddr5 ram, while an nvidia in the same price range still only has gddr3). If you need any more reasons, just check out tom's hardware -[link]-,2404.html , almost all cards on there are ATI.
