Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Based on latency which of these ddr3 1600 sticks would run faster 7-8-7-24 8-8-8-21 if somebody knows and is a talented analogical artist could you explain it in visual terms, (like 7 people running down a long hallway) yeeeeah. like that. thats the stuff |

the only thing he said that was what you were looking for was "the lower the numbers the better," but that doesn't really make sense either, lol. looking up specifically DDR3 ram because he was talking about DDR ram. |

I'm guessing the memory timings with 7's are better... but it doesn't really seem like a big difference. I've read like 3 fucking tuts and no one gives a laid out answer. Plus your memory timings are too close to decide which is better, imo, but we are noobs at this so I'll keep checking

My ram I run is 7-7-7-24 DDR3 1600. The tighter the timings the lower that latency. Either way you wont notice a difference. Especially on an i7 system.

soooo the 8-8-8-21 would be better because it's tighter?

the only thing i was confused about were people saying their stock timings were 8-8-8-27 1600mhz but they're overclocking to 7-7-7-20 1333mhz i guess you sacrifice power for speed but its technically still oc'ing. and if you buy ram at 7-7-7-21 it wont run that fast out of the gate without setting it to that manually in the bios first boot. they default at 9 cas so 9-9-9-? so theyll for sure fire up first boot. i guess the thing to shoot for is running for lower latencies and keeping the speed at 1600mhz while keeping it stable while running with your cpu, since the memory controller is located in the cpu and memory runs directly through it after traveling through dimm slots of course. run on sentence win Edited Tue Dec 15 2009, 02:41AM |

You can have ddr3 2000 with 10 cas latency... and ddr3 1333 7 cas will be faster. Let me break it down to simple terms. Think of it as a circuit race. The CAS latency being laps, the RAM mhz being mph, and the cars being data. Lets say you have 2 different races, one with 9 laps and a top speed of 180mph and the other with 7 laps with a top speed of 160mph. 3 cars on each track. Both races start at the same time. Which 3 cars finish the race first? You have a set amount of data that has to be transferred. Just because you can transfer it at 1800mhz doesnt mean it will get the job done sooner. If its latency is high, then it will take longer for the the 1800mhz to initialize. My RAM runs at 7 CAS 7-7-7-24 i believe. Its ddr3 1333. I chose that over 1600mhz with CAS of 9. I win. Plus it was cheaper... and yet faster. Edited Tue Dec 15 2009, 03:37AM |
