Oh I'm so down. I still play zombie escape sometimes on CS:S. Never gets old. So down for Office.
Also 15 years for me. Fuck man we are getting old as shit.
Also, loving Back 4 Blood. Highly recommend to everyone who enjoys coop zombie action. I play on steam. gLiTch handle was retired with FT. You can find me as theRemedy on Steam friends.

Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

This post could have been done before the ignominious demise of FTC. This also could have been done before I threw my hands up and said, "I don't want to run FTC anymore." I'd like to further preface this post with those two points; the first being that FTC crashed and burned, and the second point being that I gave up and put very little effort towards keeping FTC going. That said, the past few weeks have given me a chance to reflect on why I did not want keep FTC going. My primary reason for letting shit slide was that I did not feel obligated to chip in any more. The whole "passing the torch" idea was presented months ago, and I was reeealllly hoping Omni would pick up my slack. Obviously the torch didn't make it very far. This is not a sleight on Omni. To be candid, I don't think he ever actually signed up for the responsibility and I don't think I officially passed it on. As much as I would like to blame others... I didn't do a very smooth job of transferring power or goodwill among the FT community. All that crap aside, it appears that some folks around here still have an appetite for 24/7 office. I do too--though I haven't ventured out into the wild world of sub par office servers (compared to ye old FTC, of course!) much. It would make my day to see FTC have another 24/7 office server and I am willing to help. Many people hate my long-winded posts so let's get down to the essentials! At my disposal, I have: * A dedicated server for production and development purposes. I've had it for years... since, uh, the original FTC back in 2005 I can reasonably run at least three 20-ish slot servers * cTB, source code, and expert support on how it works, how to improve it, etc. * A fairly decent repertoire of knowledge of running SRCDS instances, sourcemod, etc. It's not as if I'm applying for a job here or anything, but I'm presenting what I can do to help to revive FT Classic. If money is raised to pay the bill for a hosted server then I will do what I can to support that. If no one wants to throw cash in and we attempt an FTC resurrection on my dedicated server.. so be it. My resources are technical and (relatively) free from a hardware/data center-oriented perspective. What FTC needs is leadership and I'm not able to provide it at this point. My previous plans for grooming a successor flopped, so let's try opening it up: speak up if you want to be involved, make a commitment, and follow through. Any takers? I think you know my want of involvement, Alex. Though it's not quite along your lines of thinking, I think it should happen. It's a chance for us to do this the right way, iron out issues, and reunite a great group of people that worked well, and have passed copious amounts of time together. I've also been picking up a few friends here and there to help populate, if the idea comes to fruition. In other words, I'm down. Ps. I've driven a considerable amount of my time to finding new office players who range from AWESOME to Decent but need a lesson. I care for NO admin in this server, but wish to drive it back to the point Fish Tank used to be. This is no sleight against surfers, or older returning members. I wish I would've never quit this clan, as it provided me with hours of entertainment, awesome chat, good reads, and the ability to help out others within. Office is something we all need. It can reunite us, and throw us a good strong second wind. I think the elder clan members should comment on this, and brainstorm on the idea. 925, I'm pointing at you, well, what's left of it. You all taught me teamwork, friendship, and a hell of alot more. I wouldn't be half the player without all of it. Skills are one thing.. teamwork is another. If you can't stand up for what you have fun with, and that which brings certain particular people together, then what else can you? This thread needs comments. Grow balls people. All you have to do is play. Edited Fri Sep 12 2008, 08:36AM |

Alex i'm down for taking on the responcibilty of runnin the server if you can run it on your dedicated. I can't afford to pick up another server with me picking up surfs slack soon. I know me and you have had our differences, but i've never steer'd ftc players in the wrong direction, i've been around longer than most, and have the experience and will to run it. I miss office terribad, and would love to see it up and running again. I was a sad sad puppy when i finally got my net and computer back and ftc was dead a week later.

Dear Alex, I know you do not know me very well because i never really got to play with you sadly. But office was by far my favorite place to spend my time and i did so ALOT. I can remember weeks when people like me, bandito, goosey, pracket, raynor, kever, etc would all be playing something like 80+ hours per week if i remember right. This number may actually have been higher but it was quite some time ago. I've had many great memories and I am really not ready for that to be over. Cha's long hall rush's, scout battles with goose, prackets random rushes are just a couple things that come to mind. I am willing to do whatever it takes to get this server back. You want some money? Tell me how i can get it there and i'll put in some extra hours. You need admins? Lawl, its gonna take some teaching but god damnit i'll do it. You need the regs back? I'll sit in office alone til they start showing up. Basically, you ask it... I'll do my best to help out please let me know what i can do steamid: _scubasteve_ |

I know for sure Eagle would be another regular on it - I use to hit office every now and then to work up my aiming skills before I would join the Surf Channel, a little change. But it was after some time that I realized that I enjoyed the company of most people that had played on office, and that it had became a learning experience aswell. I would try to fix my rates and play to the best of my ability just so I could keep that feeling alive . There are many famous faces that came about with FTC for me, and I will support it in everyway that I can if it shall return. -A

Last night I ran into Memnoch at a sub-par office server that you had mentioned in your thread. We played for a few agonizing rounds before we got off and had a discussion on Steam Friends about your thread. Memnoch told me to think of some input to put in this thread today, so here it is. There were many theories of why FTC went down before. I myself had a few of my own. However, in order for us to re-establish a successful server again, some things are going to have to be changed differently than what they were when the server went down. The time that I did get to put into FTC I spent observing why connections went down, etc. 1. Admins are going to have to be carefully picked. I went in no particular order of importance of shit that hit the fan. All I am saying is that admining should be a little more lenient. For instance, if a person is playing HLSS, and nobody but the admin complains, wouldn't it be the smart thing to do and just client mute him yourself instead of ruining the fun for other people? I remember when Evilpig used to have his dance parties in the projector room. Admins should also not let their emotions affect their decisions. Nobody is going to be willing to put up with a disgruntled admin who slays them because he died in Front Office by them a minute in the round. You're going to have to realize that it does take a few newbies some time to strategize on that map and camping for them is fairly necessary. In order for us to gain a new player core, we are going to have to succumb to their demands - for a while. 2. cTB to have a decreased swap rate. I know you said you were going to work on this, but another reason I saw people leave was because of the high rate of swapping. It would be much easier if we had a dedicated team of admins that could do the swapping on their own when necessary rather than having to go through all the time making a script to do it for you. ___________________________________________________ I never really saw a lot of problems with FTC other than the ones that I mentioned above, and I'm still curious of why it completely went down. Other than people just moving on from the game, there is also the theory that people are just growing up, and heading off to college. I believe we can start up a new and successful FTC, but now's not the time. A launch for it should be set at a time where college players will be back for a short amount of time just so we can unleash those giddy FTC butterflies from their stomachs. However, the time we have we should spend restructuring the way things are for the server, such as leadership (duh), admins (duh), etc. I would offer to run the server as far as appointing admins, and banning fags in the console goes. But as for everything else about running a server, I have absolutely no clue what I'm doing. So, if I would take care of those aspects, someone else would have to take the responsibility of running the scripts, server crashes, etc. My last question to you is, if you need money we do have the donated money we have left sitting in PayPal waiting to be used. If you would ever need that for the server's continuance, it's always there. I think we discussed a payment plan if we would happen to get FTC running. A set number of people donating would cost xx a year to keep running. I've played in other servers where they have an established player base and their server runs off donations. People are willing to donate if the server hits their office-awesome g-spot. I think a new FTC is ready to survive. We have things that other Office servers do not have, like back hall nades, dance parties in projector room, etc. A good picked admin team, admins who actually follow the old policy, semi-new player base, and some player recruitment such as Memnoch has done will get our server up and running. Let me know, I am up for running a team of admins as a job, and picking the people who I think are good enough to do the job. I'm anxious to see people like Bubble Goose's input in HIS terms of how the server should be ran, or whom would be good for the job. |

I was saving this until we got a little further down the road... and for the pain of not having an awesome 24/7 Office server to really set in... (seriously other 24/7 Office servers suck fucking shit) As always NoSkill will do whatever needs to be done (falling short of physically maintaining the server & it's files/configs). However this time I have a demand (should of did this last time). And I'm going to demand it of Bandito, simply because I think he can do it. For me to even consider giving this a shot. I want a list of 50 people. FIVE. ZERO. Who respond to the question "If FTC were brought back, would you play on it?" with an enthusiastic "Hell yea I would." 50 individual people, listed in a word document or however you want to do it. Until those 50 people present themselves... I'm not even going to think twice about it. The problem has never been the server, the money or the operation. The problem has been the demand. The DEMAND for FTC was not strong enough to support it. And I'm still in no way convinced that a month of down time has spurred the type of demand neccesary to successfully populate a 22 slot server during peak hours. Find 50.. and then we'll talk. You guys are all talking technical. What is it, what does it do, how does it do it, yaghta yaghta yaghta... who cares, that's the easy part. Focus on the hard part... motivating people to use it. Getting people to follow through on a commitment. Dissuading people from "doing what they want" and persuading them to "do what you want" and making them feel good about it. Cause I'll tell you what, if we had 50 people who all WANTED to play FTC all the time, we would still have a server. Edited Fri Sep 12 2008, 07:09PM |

Although I don't really have any source of income, or any money to donate, let me know what I can do to help(sorry, but I can't run it). I miss FTC and want it back, bad.

I'm willing to consider those who posted here as deductions from the total needed. 41 more people to go. |
