Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

While expirimenting with diet coke, me and my friend pat (plays cs under A Lion), were out of mentos, so we ried finding an alternative. Here is our results: Alka Seltzer was limited; it went fast and didnt do as much as the mentos. Black Pepper did nothing. Rainbow Jimmies made it sweet, but there was no reaction. Chocolate jimmies made it chocolate coke, but no reaction. Ranch Dressing did nothing, and made a mess. We did, however, stumble across one very good result: Table Salt. We put table salt in a napkin, then rolled up the napkin and closed the cover on the bottle, threw it, and about 15 seconds later, the bottle exploded. We tryed pouring the salt in, and we got the same result. So if you are out of mentos and want some fun, try diet coke and table salt! |

Coke and mentos is pussy shit. If you want an explosion, try pool filter cleaner (muriatic acid) and aluminum foil, then screw the top on and run | ||

Hm...I'm trying to figure out why that reacts... Here's my guess. That would be NaCl + some mixture of H2O, CO2, and a bunch of other shit. The NaCl would dissociate, and I guess it could form NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide) which would cause an enormous amount of pressure... That's all I can think of, unless it reacts with some compound in soda that I didn't know was there. Time to google it. [Edit] I'm so far off that I feel stupid. From Cokementos.com: Chemists speculate that the primary cause for the reaction fizzes down to something called nucleation sites. If you have a liquid that is pumped full of a gas, as Diet Coke is pumped full of carbon dioxide, a nucleation site is a place where bubbles can form. Nucleation sites can be found on anything with a lot of tiny nooks and crannies, or anywhere you have a large amount of surface area in a small volume. Though Mentos appear to be smooth, they are actually incredibly pocked with microscopic bumps and scratches - perfect places for bubbles to form. So, for instance if a Mentos Mint has 1,000,000 microscopic bumps on it's surface, when Diet Coke is added to the equation, say 1,000 bubbles form in every possible nook and cranny, you get a Coke-load of bubbles in a hurry. Mentos are particularly good for this experiment because of their weight. This allows them to sink to the bottom rapidly reacting with every inch of the Diet Coke creating billions and billions of new bubbles all the way down. The results you can see for yourself by watching the videos on this site! Edited Sat Dec 16 2006, 10:38PM |
