Alright...it's 3 am. I'm slightly intoxicated. I was playing on the server with glitch and estout. This guy, SilkyJohnson, was spamming and starting to "bad mouth" other players. I kicked him, he came back and started again, I was trying to just ban him for 5 min....didn't work, he came back and started doing it again, so, I went for 30 min. What do i do? tell me. please. I ban myself for 30 min. SO, here i am. I'm retarded. I don't deserve admin. Lol, i thought i'd be a good admin, but, I'm just dumb. I'm sorry, I let those who supported me down. Please, tell me if you've done something along these lines. PLEASE! |

Sunshine, I'm pretty sure AP gave you admin because he trusts your judgement. Type status in console and copy their steam ID. When I had admin I refreshed player list and typed status in console on the regular. If someone fucked up, I knew their ID and Steam name. If the kicking/banning doesn't work, and they continue rejoining to be an ass, then punish them with a slay at the start of their round instead of kicking. Most people come to realize they cant compete with the admin at that point. Another incentive for people to behave after you have given warning, is to paste their information that you copied after typing status in console. If they know anything, they realize that they are one step closer to a perm ban. All you have to do is post that info in forums with a description of what went down and action will be taken by some one like AP, Omni, or DN if it was on surf. I think you can also get their ip information by typing ma_status in console if you have admin. I might be wrong about this command, I settled for just their steam id. Maybe one of the more experienced admins can give you some more advice. Your not dumb, I have banned myself and slayed the wrong players before. You go to punish someone and someone leaves, quickly changing your numbered list and it causes you to make a mistake. It happens, really experienced admins know what to type so they dont bring up the menu. Again maybe someone else can share some of their techniques. Was your ban power not working on a particular player, but working because you could ban yourself? Edited Thu Dec 14 2006, 08:43AM |

Lol, we all have our mistakes sometimes. Once, I meant to type in a slay for one FT member to move him to spec, and it slayed every FT member in the server. And then it did that when I typed something in to kick someone. You just gotta get used to the commands, it takes some learning to get used to. And as for that asshole, do what Awse said, get his steam id and bring it here. Ban him for 2 hours, so he thinks that he's not comming back, and put the Steam ID here so he's perma banned. I don't have to worry about that anymore, I can just permma ban right on the spot, but only do that if you feel that it is the right circumstance. Just because you messed up once doesn't mean you have to get all down on yourself  I have faith in you and I'm sure that AP as well as everyone else does too.

I think everyone who has had admin has done something like slay the wrong person or kick the wrong person it isnt a hard task. By annoying do you just mean mic and text? becouse if that is teh case you could always just mute him. Mute prevents them form talking and typeing. If your stuck and dont know what to do as was said earlyer say status and get their steam ID then ask omni or AP what should be done about the trouble player. |

Don't be so hard on yourself, SuNsHiNe! Everyone makes mistakes like that. I can't tell you the number of times that I have slayed, blinded, muted, banned, etc. the wrong person. You're not dumb and you haven't let anyone down. Keep your head up! |

Hehe, I think that everyone has messed up the commands before, so its no biggie. Try using the shortcuts instead of going through the menu. If you wanted to ban SilkyJohnson, you could've typed "@ban 30 silk" in chat, and that would have done the trick. (@ban |

yeah sunshine.. i remember that guy. god he was annoying. we all having a good time me u estout and some other dude and this guy coems in and starts spamming everything! bad mouthing estout and me. and u kicked and banned him and he kept commin back. then it says Sunshine has banned Sunshine and i started dying! lol me and estout (dont get this the wrong way) were laughing our asses off for like 5 minutes. lol. Bubble is right. Use the shortcuts because its much faster and easier and waaaay less confusing. I had admin on this server once looong time ago and thats wat i used to do. in 1.6, on my server way back when, i used to use the pages and commands like that scrolling through pages to find soemone to slap or slay or kick or ban and i cant tell you how many times i slayed myself or banned my own clan members lol. good times good times. anywayz sunshine dont get down on yoruself EVERYONE has made these mistakes. but as with everything else in this world, you only get better with practice so slay me a few times to get used to it lol. |
