Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Lol glitch. And no stock heatsink/fan for now just because I wanted to keep the budget at a minimum(did a good job right lol). Once Win8 comes out and I can get a stable OS I might think about OCing. I do love having a stable system though without having to worry about much. The only thing I have really thought about doing is doubling up the SSD and going raid but even that makes me worry about stability lol.

Raid 0 is useless for SSDs in my opinion. SO unless your making a clone i dont see the point. And windows 8 is terrible. Im staying with 7. Windows 7 with a smaller footprint would be where it's at. |

Here's a video from Samaung (the shittiest SSD manufacturer) that takes things to a level a consumer would never see, but proves my point: -[link]- |

Ya they have to be decent quality SSD's for raid to work really well, haven't even looked if mine would work. You don't like the Samsung 830 SSD's toast? |

If you want a rock solid stable OS run Ubuntu(pick one without unity). Win7 is even more stable than win8 will be. Its basically a mobile OS so as long as you're into gaming Win7 or Linux is best. |

Win8 PR was fast as shit, but was far from stable. I'm interested to see how it turns out but if it comes down to it I'll just buy a win7 key.

I don't like any Samsung SSDs. Just because it's physical memory and not cylinders doesn't make it better. The key to any SSD is its controller. If you want the overly complicated explanation, read this: -[link]- (it's a little dated, but it is a very good read that explains why some SSDs are better than other. The tldr version: think of a RAID system when you think of a single SSD. The SSD itself splits the memory it has into small blocks. The quality of the SSD depends entirely on how the controller can store data across those blocks (or striping), and how it manages the cleanup of those blocks once the data is gone (or trim). Most manufacturers do the first part very well, but have very little or no support for the second. What this translates to is your SSD works nice and fast when you get it, but as time goes on, it starts to slow down significantly as the number of free blocks decreases. Good SSDs will have TRIM support. Controller manufacturers that have TRIM support are Intel and Sandforce (the list may be larger since I last looked, but those are the ones I'm sure about). |

I'm sure with all that storage space you could make multiple partitions for different OS for multiple tasks. I have win XP, Win 7, and ubuntu on my gaming rig, each OS is excellent for certain tasks. Sexy rig though and interesting read about the SSD's, I can bring that up in class tomorrow. |
