Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

I dont know much about all this but ive read up on just about anything so i think its good to implement more than one method because they look at diff aspects like the six sigma is good for quality management etc, the thing about the toyota way is that you get unhappy workers. I think i have an ebook on all this, i just gotta find it, but you can just google alot of books etc...and just buy them. read up on colonel sanders life, he overcame just about everything...but it wasn't manufacturing, but it might give some insight. No like I said I have a company... it's running at a 2.5M+ clip... but our profit margin is zilch, zero, nada, break even. I need to learn why what we're doing isn't working beyond the obvious: you need to charge more, spend less, do it faster, automate it, sell more. Those are the overall goals but where does one start? Do you start in sourcing cheaper materials? Do you start by highering more talented labor that produces a superior product faster? Or do you invest in machinery to automate the process? Do you slash prices to move more product to offset cost of maintaining inventory? At what point is it a profitable decision? I mean there's a million things I could do here to improve the process, this I've gathered from the research I've done. My question is... where do I start, what investment will have the largest return. What would cost the least to gain the most? Would hiring a manager to oversee production increase profitability by improving quality control, production efficiency and help in creating future lists of needs/wants. But these are all questions people have asked before. So I'm gonna start with The Goal, The Toyota Way, Lean Thinking and some other books. I'll let you guys know what I come up with if you're interested. |

I can't really answer these questions with the info i have. What to do all depends on what you manufacture, who you sell too, who you buy from, what you pay, how you manufacture, ect. I really don't know any of that. The forums aren't the best place for this discussion. I'll send you a PM with my email address and some info and you can take it where you want. | ||

Yup, definitely not a production engineer here. Good luck though. I could really only give you a cheap overview of how we run our business which probably wouldn't help you much. Good luck on the research though. This sounds book-worthy if you can gather research and successfully apply it into your own business. Plenty of people who would love to read examples of Joe Schmoe streamlining his production to compare to their own attempts. |
