Super down for a rerun. I think we all have some old connections to plan something ahead of time, on an updated game, or even outdated, for all of us to do an event on. I would look forward to that very much

Fuck cancer. I really mean it. Fuck it to the ground. Since you are all somewhat family in my eyes even though i never personally met any of you (with the exception of bob whom i may meet in the very near future) i feel that i can share this information with you all. It is my particular way of venting on the matter. As you all may know, i have a girlfriend. She has been with me through thick and thin from my younger years all through majority of college and thereafter. 5 and 1/2 years and still going. For the past week, it has been yet another difficult time in our conjoined lives. She was just diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. At 20 years old and somewhat healthier then most. At first, i was a bit upset. But that sadness soon faded after a couple of hours and was quickly replaced with severe anger and resentment. How and why did this happen to a wonderful person whom is healthier then most of this fuckin country and so harmless as to get mad at me when i swat a fly? I am surrounded by people all day who eat like shit, talk like shit, act like shit, treat themselves and their bodies with such disrespect that it makes me sick.... and i really cannot talk because the thing that makes me mad the most was the fact I was one of those people. Maybe not acted and talked like shit, but i treated my body like shit. I couldnt help feel that i should have been the one with cancer and not her. I feel it should have been my burden to bare not hers. But unfortunately, this is not the case. She has (or most likely does by several tests and reports) Papillary Thyroid Cancer. So far we have seen some of the best endocrinologist's and Oncologist's in the world all conveniently located here in Manhattan. We are going for as many opinions as possible before she makes her decision to go under the knife and go for a thyroidectomy or semi-thyroidectomy. Followed by pills for the rest of her life as well as radioactive iodine chemotherapy. The next several months will be a mentally and possibly physically exhausting journey for the two of us, as well as her whole family. Granted, it is not the worst cancer... hell, it isnt even the worst thyroid cancer... but its just that word "cancer" that does something to a person. It is like this word that ultimately strikes fear into a man from within. You can be the strongest in the world and just about anything, but this one word can bring you to your knees in seconds. "Cancer," fucking cancer. In my belief, it is an illness of the body, mind, and soul. Also with the help of our processed way of life in terms of food accompanied by increasing stress levels within younger generations. In my opinion, it is the consequence of a struggling life... only introduced with more struggle. The cancer that she has is curable. But the journey to the cure won't be an easy one as it will affect her for the rest of her life. Mine including. And coincidentally, several days before this diagnosis, i bought Lance Armstrong's book... go fucking figure. So far it is an amazing book. If any of you enjoy reading (hell even if you dont... i dont) pick up this book. It is such an inspirational book that it will make you want to be the best you can possibly be. Not just career wise, but physically, mentally, and spiritually. I hope you guys never have to deal with anything related to this subject. I wish you and your families all good health. Later. P.S. This does NOT mean im leaving the forums or clan! lol... Fuck that shit. |

ah that's tough man, i feel for ya although, i feel, you shouldn't look at it as to why a bad thing would happen to a good/healthy person (in a sense) bad things happen to everyone. some minor and some, in this case, much more major. take it as it comes and be strong, because well, you have to be for her really hope all goes well mayne |

Sorry to hear that man, I know what you're going through though. About 5 years ago, my 9 year old cousin was diagnosed with brain cancer (forget the specific name) but one of the deadliest forms of cancer in a kid. It's been a hard road for her but she has fought through it, and didn't even stay back a grade. All in all, there are worse things than having to take a pill everyday for the rest of your life, albeit, it will suck. But if you look on the bright side, JTT while in Home Improvement had to do it too. Good luck with the long road ahead of you, if you ever need to talk, and you catch me on facebook, just message me. |

I imagine that pill's probably the same type of pill my mom takes right now... It's called Synthroid. Honestly, I heard about it once and I haven't heard about it since. I'm sure she'll get entirely used to it... But you're right. Shit isn't fair. My girlfriend's mother got breast cancer and I felt the exact same way. There's absolutely no reason why she should have gotten it other than that god's a prick. | ||

Thanks rusty. I know a pill everyday for the rest of ur life isn't the worst thing in the world... but its hard on her mentally. I feel she is so fragile. Especially lately with how hard her college classes are. Ur cousin is very brave and i wish goodluck. And thanks, if I need to talk i will def message u. And nostie, it is synthroid. It's one of the major brands of thyroid hormone medication. I just hope everything goes as smooth as possible. Thanks again guys. I just needed to get all this out on paper (or computer whatever). It has been floating in my head for days now and.talking doesn't help too much. Sometimes writing it does. Thanks again for listening. |

Not that it would change anything, but I can kind of relate like nostie to this. My mom takes a pill to stop from getting Hypothyroid (I'm not sure of the details at all, happened plenty of years ago, Idk if it's called Synthroid or not, I'll have to ask her) and has to take it EVERYDAY (well, some skips here and there don't kill you, but not taking for weeks WILL). It's not too bad for everyday life, but my mom's side has a history of Thyroid-related cancer/health problems, and thankfully she will be fine. It was, however, bad when she first found out, the treatment made her moody, bloated (pretty much like a period x5) for almost 2 months and it sucked for everyone. But, we got through it, and I'm sure you guys will too. Of course I have the utmost amount of condolences to you and your GF/wife (5+ years and no marriage? Wtf you waiting for lol) and hope everything turns out manageable at the very least. I'll have to read that book also. Edited Thu Jun 24 2010, 04:00AM |
